Kano AGILE Team Visits NMEC SAME

The Kano State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) second chance education component 2.2c team has paid an advocacy visit to the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) and the Kano State Agency for Mass Education (SAME).

This visit aimed to inform the agencies about AGILE’s Second Chance education component and seek collaboration.

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project is a World Bank-assisted project of the Federal Ministry of Education geared at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls aged between 10 and 20.

The AGILE Second Chance component 2.2c was created to transform the educational prospects of young women and girls offering a pathway for those left behind by fostering a more inclusive and prosperous future.

During the visit to NMEC and SAME, the coordinator second chance education AGILE Kano, Hajiya Jamila Ibrahim explained that they were at the agencies to inform them about the new component and seek for collaboration.

She stressed that, the AGILE component 2.2c would utilize adult literacy centers under NMEC and SAME to train adolescent and young girls on literacy numeric and entrepreneurship skills.

“The team will commence identification and validation of girls in each community they have the chance to select between education and entrepreneurship training. PWDs will also be cooped into the second chance education”.

Hajia Jamila noted that the program targets adolescent girls and young women between the age of 15 -25 to give them a second chance of completing at least secondary education.

“Educational Prospects for young women and girls, offering a pathway for those left behind.

“The second chance education AGILE in Kano State will work tirelessly to ensure enrollment retention and completion of education and we hope to educate a large percentage of adolescent and young women that have not had the opportunity to complete their education due to certain factors”.

The Center Secretary of National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and non-formal education NMEC, Hajiya Maimuna Yaro Yahya and the acting Executive Secretary Kano State Agency for Mass Education-SAME, Alhaji Surajo Mahe Alkali described the second chance education initiative by AGILE as apt.

They pledged to provide the necessary support to achieve the desired objectives.

The co-chair of the Kano State Accountability Forum on Education K-SAFE, Dr Auwal Halilu, pointed out that the team will identify learners and centers that will benefit from the second chance education intervention.

“By collaborating with NMEC and SAME, AGILE’s Second Chance education component can effectively reach and empower women and adolescent girls”.

Radio Nigeria reports that other members of the advocacy team include the public relations office AGILE Kano, Aliyu Yusuf, Muhammed Mahmoud, Secretary Component 2.2c, deputy leads 2.1, Zainab Omar Muhammed, Deputy Lead Component 2.3, AGILE, Maryam Ahmed and the auditor AGILE Rabi YUSUF shehu.
