The United Nation Education Fund (UNICEF), says Kebbi State, has the highest number of dimensionally poor children with 88% of the total children in the state.
The Social Policy Specialist UNICEF Sokoto, Malam Isa Ibrahim, mentioned this at a presentation on a two day Capacity Building for Coalition of Civi Society Organisations and the Media on Public Financial Management, Child Friendly Budgeting and Releases across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states holding in Birnin Kebbi.
He stated that, according to National Bureau of Statistics 2023, every eight out of ten children in Kebbi state are dimensionally poor as a result of denial of access to education, health, nutrition, potable water among others.
The Kebbi State Acting Head of the Civil Service, Hajiya Aishatu Usman, said the state government has been making effort to ensure that, children situation in the state improve through the implementation of Social protection policy, Food and Nutrition policy as well Child right act that was signed into law.
She hoped that, collaboration of the government and the CSOs will ensure that budget are release to the appropriate sectors to ensure the situation of children improve in the state.
The two day workshop draw participants from government officials, CSOs, NGOs, People with Special Needs and the Media from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
