Linguistic Association Of Nigeria Holds Conference In Katsina 

 

Linguistic Association of Nigeria LAN in collaboration with Al-Qalam University Katsina AUK has commenced its 35th annual conference with a focus on effective strategies for implementing Nigeria’s national language policy.

 

Declaring the conference open at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, the Chief Host and Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, underscored the importance of language in national development.

 

He said language policy implementation is crucial for promoting unity, diversity, and socio-economic growth of the nation.

 

In her welcome address, Convener and Local Organizing Committee Chairperson, Dr. Hafsat Abubakar Kofar Kaura, emphasized the significance of the conference in promoting linguistic diversity and national development.

LAN President, Prof. Imelda Udoh, welcomed participants and paid tribute to the late Prof. Isma’il Junaidu, immediate past Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council NERDC, who passed away recently.

 

“We pray for the repose of his soul,” Prof. Udoh said.

 

This year’s conference is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Isma’il Junaidu, a renowned linguist and educator.

 

Themed “From Policy to Practice: Implementation Strategies for the National Language Policy in Nigeria,” the conference brings together scholars, researchers, and stakeholders to address the challenges of language policy implementation.

 

The conference features paper presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions, providing a platform for participants to share knowledge and expertise.
