SON Adopts 88 Int’l Standards For CNG To Propel Nigeria’s Natural Gas

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in line with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, has adopted 88 international standards for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) products to support the success of CNG initiatives.

The Director General of the organisation Ifeanyi Okeke made this known during a road walk ahead of this year’s world standards day celebration saying that, SON is a member of the committee developing the Natural Gas Vehicles Monitoring System (NGVMS), aimed at overseeing the implementation of CNG systems in vehicles and to ensure the use of quality products in Nigeria.

He said the organisation has also conducted factory visits to China and India to certify CNG components and kits, prioritising safety and quality assurance.

Mr Okeke said the theme for the 2024 celebration, “Shared Vision for A Better World, Spotlighting Sustainable Development Goal Number 9 (SDG 9) of the United Nations”, noting that SDG Goal Number 9 was about “industry, innovation and infrastructure.

The Director, Standards Development of SON, Yahaya Buka said the theme of the 2024 World Standard Day, focuses on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be applied in the industry.

World standards body every year, celebrate World Standards Day, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of experts worldwide who developed the voluntary technical agreement that are published as international standards.
