The National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) has announced that Federal Government is committed to providing free medical services and assistance to Nigerians at no cost for a period of 48 hours.

During a programme on Radio Nigeria Sunshine FM, Dr. Saidu Ahmed Dumbulwa, the National Coordinator of NEMSAS and Senior Technical Adviser to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Services, made this disclosure.

Dr. Dumbulwa explained that this initiative was introduced by the Federal Government and is being implemented in states such as Yobe, Anambra, Rivers, Lagos, Bauchi, and Kano, with a particular emphasis on reaching rural and hard-to-access communities.

He noted that state governors and commissioners of health have identified and designated specific centres in specialist hospitals and other healthcare facilities to assist victims of emergencies.

Dr. Dumbulwa expressed gratitude to the Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Pate, and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for their commitment to improving the health sector.

Another guest on the programme, Dr. Abdullahi Ali Damchuwa, the Executive Secretary of  YEMABUS, stated that the emergency programme has already commenced in the state capital and its surroundings, successfully assisting hundreds of citizens at no cost.

Dr. Damchuwa further explained that the services of the agency will be extended to all local government areas in the state.

He called on religious groups, associations, and wealthy individuals within the state to invest in commercial ambulances to assist emergency patients at the federal government’s expense.

The health experts emphasised that cases of road accidents, heart attacks, cholera outbreaks, child poisoning, hypertension, and any sudden medical emergencies should be reported to YEMABUS for immediate action.
