Authorities Urged to Activate Protections for Women, Children Affected by Maiduguri Flood

Federal and State Governments have been advised to immediately activate all mechanisms to protect women and children affected by Maiduguri flood disaster against trafficking and sexual exploitation.

National president of a non governmental organisation , Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour, NACTAL, Mr. Abdulganiyu Abubakar gave the advice while expressing NACTAL condolence to the government and people of Borno state on the recent flood incidence occurred in the state.

The National president of the organisation said the unfortunate situation would likely fuel incidences of trafficking, sexual abuse and irregular migration of women and children.

Mr. Abdulganiyu called on government agencies concern to remain vigilant and work closely with civil society groups in a bid to identifying potential cases of trafficking in the affected state.

He also appealed to all development partners concern to quickly convene an emergency meeting of stakeholders with a view to developing a plan on how to assist the affected victims.
