Zamfara Distributes Free Fertilizers To 45,000 Farmers

Zamfara State government has launched the distribution of one hundred and thirty five trucks of assorted fertilizer and farming inputs to forty five thousand farmers across the state for free.

Governor Dauda Lawal while launching the distribution in Gusau , the state capital said his administration  recognise the critical role agriculture plays in the state economy and in lives of the people.

Dr. Dauda Lawal explained each beneficiary would benefit with two bags of the fertilizer across the fourteen local government areas of the State.

He expressed confidence that the fertiliser would help the farmers to increase their farming production,  thereby contributing immensely to food security in the state and the nation at large.

Dr. Lawal pointed out that, his administration has collaborated with federal government through the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and other stakeholders to secure additional fertilizer for distribution to farmers.

He assured that the state government will sustain efforts to address challenges in the farming sector a bid to enable in farmers realise their full potential with a view to contributing to the state’s socio economic development.

According to him, approximately eighty percent of the state population engage in one form of agriculture production or another, emphasizing that, agriculture remained the significant contributor to the state GDP despite the challenges caused by insecurity which has severely affecting farming activities.

Governor Dauda Lawal urged the beneficiaries to use the fertilizer appropriately and assured support in providing conducive environment for agricultural production across the state to strive to enable farmers to return their farmland without any fear.

In his welcome addressed, Zamfara State Commissioner for Agriculture Alhaji Yau Haruna Gamji applauded Governor Dauda Lawal for initiating various programmes to support farmers.

He said the present administration had achieved a lot in supporting famers since it inception to date.

Some beneficiaries of the assorted fertilizer commended the state government for the support and pledged to using it for the purpose provided.

The event was attended by the Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Special Advisers, the Emir of Gusau Dr Ibrahim Bello, the State Commissioner of Police and other dignitaries.

Highlights of the event include symbolic presentation of the fertilizers to some beneficiaries as well as drama presentation showing the importance of farming.
