The Jigawa State Government has expressed serious concern over a statement circulating in various sections of the media, alleging that Governor Umar Namadi has approved N70,000 as the new minimum wage.

This is contained in a statement made available to Radio Nigeria by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim.

The statement described the situation as embarrassing and premature, noting that the committee, led by the Head of the State Civil Service and tasked with advising on the appropriate wage, has not yet finished its work or submitted its findings.

Accordingly, the State Government is compelled to set up a Committee to investigate the source, actual content of the statement and the motive behind it.

Malam Bala Ibrahim said the Committee is to be chaired by the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini,

Other members of the Committee include Commissioners of Information, Health, Youth, Sports and Culture, Permanent Secretaries Establishment and Service Matters, and REPA, Abba Mustapha Yola as Secretary.

Meanwhile, Governor Malam Umar Namadi has temporarily suspended Alhaji Bashir Ado Kazaure from his position as Special Adviser on Salary and Pension, awaiting the results of the committee’s investigation.

The statement read, “The Special Adviser to the Governor on Salary and Pension, Alhaji Bashir Ado Kazaure, is hereby suspended pending the outcome of the committee’s findings.”

The Committee has two weeks within which to submit its report.
