The Senate has screened the presidential nominee, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh, for appointment as the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON).

In his opening remark during the exercise, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Sani Bello, emphasized that the committee was tasked with screening the nominee for confirmation by the Senate for appointment by President Bola Ahmed.

He said the main concern of the committee was to ensure that the nominee is qualified and has the capacity to actively run the affairs of the commission efficiently.

Senator Sani Bello further stated that, based on the nominee’s CV and his position as a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, there is no doubt that he is qualified for the job.

Senator Muhammad Adamu Aleiro, in his remarks on the nominee, expressed confidence that the nominee’s curriculum vitae demonstrates his strong qualifications to lead the commission, citing his extensive experience in Da’awa and Islamic propagation both domestically and internationally.

He further emphasized that, as an Islamic scholar with deep expertise in Hajj, the nominee should be promptly considered for screening.

Senator Aleiro then proposed a motion for the committee to proceed with the nomination of Professor Abdullahi Saleh for the role of Chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON).

Similarly, in an interview with the Chairman of the Committee shortly after the exercise, Senator Sani Bello assured that the Senate will continue to oversee the affairs of the commission and ensure that things continue to run smoothly in the near future.

He also said the Senate will intervene where necessary to ensure that Hajj fares remain affordable for all intending pilgrims in Nigeria.

Senator Sani Bello commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the selection and prayed for Allah’s guidance and blessings for the new Chairman of the Commission, Abdullahi Saleh, to carry out his duties effectively and efficiently.
