The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP has issued a 15 day ultimatum to the Federal and State Governments to address issues affecting public polytechnics nation wide.

The Zonal Coordinator ASUP Zone A, Dr Abdulazeez Ibrahim Badaru stated this during a press briefing held at the Jigawa State Polytechnic Dutse.

According to him, some of the pending issues include non review of the suspended 2023 Scheme of Service and disregard for 25-35 percent salary review in state owned polytechnics.

Others also include unpaid CONTISS 15, migration arrears for lower cadre staff, and interference by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, in academic processes.

Dr Abdulazeez Badaru pointed out that, others are outstanding promotion arrears and non-implementation of promotions, delayed release of NEEDS assessment intervention funds, and exclusion of peculiar academic allowance in the post-IPPIS era.

He said government’s indifference to these critical issues has left ASUP members with stagnant wages, inadequate infrastructure, and undermined autonomy.

“ASUP demands immediate action on these issues; failure to comply within the 15-day ultimatum, we will embark on industrial actions, including withdrawal of services, peaceful protests, and media engagements.”

Badaru added that, the union will take drastic measures to protect the interests of its members and the polytechnic education system.
