Flood: KWSG Put Measures To Mitigate Effect

Kwara State Government KWSG says it has put in place measures to mitigate the devastating effects of flooding in some parts of the State.

In a statement by the  Commisssioner for Environment , Hajiya Nafisat Musa Buge call for calm among residents of the state on the trends currently being experienced in the volume, duration and pattern of rainfall which has led to massive flooding in some parts of the state.

According to it the flooding being experienced is a temporary situation, that will go, with time.

The statement identifies the situation as a global phenomenal which can be attributed to the effect of climate change on environment as a result of natural phenomenon as well as human activities.

It explains that raining and dry season no longer fall on the normal transition months, following human influence which warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.

The Commisssioner express concern over the impending flood situation ,noting that the state government is taking proactive measures to ensure public safety.

It says efforts are on to ensure continuous dredging of Asa River, construction of embankment, desilting of drainages , provision of additional waste bins, as well as the expansion of the dump site for proper waste disposal across the State.
