UNICEF, Sokoto Enhance Collaboration On Neonatal Care

Nigeria Country Representative of United Nations Children Fund UNICEF Ms. Cristian Munduate  has called for a collaboration with Sokoto state government to improve birth registration and nutritional issues in the  state.

Ms. Cristian who made the call during a courtesy visit to the wife of Sokoto state governor, said the state has over one million children under five years who have not been registered.

She stressed that having a certificate after delivery would give the child the right to an official name and help households to have better access to social services.

Radio Nigeria in Sokoto report that the UNICEF country representative inaugurated a special baby care unit which was renovated and equipped with state of the art incubators for new born babies in the state.

Responding, the wife of Sokoto state governor, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu expressed appreciation for the contributions of UNICEF in the primary healthcare sector of the state .

She said  the special baby care unit will mark a significant achievement in improving maternal and newborn healthcare services in Sokoto State.
