Over two hundred sickle cell patients have benefited from free medical outreach and cash donated by the wife of Zamfara State Governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal.
The event was organised to commemorate this year’s World Sickle Cell Day held at Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
Huriyya Lawal noted that, the day was set aside to raise awareness, reduce stigma and encourage those affected with support.
According to her, people with sickle cell disease finds it difficult to access their medications due to financial constraints among other factors.
The wife of the Governor commended the state government for improving access to quality healthcare in the state, hence the need for wealthy individuals and corporate bodies to continue provide support to the families of sickle cell patients.
Huriyya Dauda Lawal also stressed the need for people to ensure they check their genotype before marriage to avoid anything that might lead to given birth to such patients.
