Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is urging transporters and their unions to capitalize on the federal government’s free vehicle conversion program, currently available nationwide, as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The Coordinator of Logistics and Supply Chain for the Initiative, Mr. Thomas Ayu, made the call during the inspection of vehicle compatibility and the handover ceremony of conversion kits and cylinders in Kaduna.

Mr. Thomas Ayu reiterated that President Bola Tinubu was committed to his promise of alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the populace through relevant intervention programs.

‘we are converting transporters vehicles completely free , both cylinders, kits and cost of conversion in line with Mr president directive and promise to the Nigerian people ‘

‘we are targeting to give out about ten thousand kits and cylinders free of charge to commercial vehicles in the coming weeks and months across the country’, he narrated.

He said one hundred and fifty kits and one hundred and fifty cylinders will be distributed to Kaduna transporters on this batch of conversion , adding that the kits and cylinders are not for personal cars.

‘we have not started converting cars of private individuals, or organization but purely those in the transport sector so that the impact of fuel subsidy removal will not affect them very much’

‘at the moment we have kits for six cylinders and that of four cylinders cars; and Rolling Energy is one of our partners that is converting the vehicles in the transport sector on behalf of the government’, he explained.

The coordinator reiterated that converted CNG cars and their technology is cleaner, cheaper and cost effective , hence the need for all Nigerians to embrace the initiative wholeheartedly for their good and the country at large.
