FG Inaugurates Committee On Consequential Adjustment For New Minimum Wage

Committee for the consequential adjustment in salaries to reflect the new Minimum Wage Act, 2024 has been inaugurated.

The committee of 16 members, comprising of government and labour representatives, will be chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Did Wilson-Jack.

At the inauguration in Abuja, the head of service said the committee had the task of developing a template to be used for salary adjustments only for all cadres in the civil service.

Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack said the committee would be diligent in tackling all issues and would come up with a template as soon as possible.

President Bola Tinubu signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law on July 29, 2024.

The Minister of State, Labour, and Employment, Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeo, says the consequential adjustment for the new National Minimum Wage for Workers will soon be out.

She stated this at a town hall meeting with organised labour and workers in Abuja.

Dr. Onyejeocha explained that the federal government was determined to come up with a template that would enable workers to enjoy the new minimum wage.

The Minister of State said President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained committed to tackling headlong all socio-economic ills bedevilling the country.

The guest speaker and lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University, Prof. George Ogenyi, urged the federal government to leverage local production of fuel for economic stability.

Prof. Ogenyi urged the federal government to stabilise the pump price of PMS and address youth unemployment.

” Unemployment rate was at 4.1% considered very high according to National Bureau of Statistics(NBS, 2023)” Prof Ogenyi stated.

He stated that the eight -point agenda of President Tinubu represents a comprehensive blueprint for national growth and development.

Organised labour and other stakeholders called on the government at all levels to prioritise the welfare of Nigerian workers.
