 Hunger Protest:Judicial Commission Of Inquiry Seeks Public, Media Support

 

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the cases of breach of peace, wanton destruction of public and private properties, looting, arson, and killings that occurred in Kano on the first week of August 2024 has seeks for the public and media support to achieve its mandate.

 

 

 

The Chairman of the Commission Commission Justice Lawan W. Mohammed (Rtd), disclosed this during the commencement of the commissions activities ,held at State High Court Miller Road Kano.

 

 

He said the Commission was Establish to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the unrest, Identify individuals, groups, or institutions responsible for the unrest,Ascertain the extent of damage to properties, loss of lives, and valuables.

 

 

Other terms of reference for the commission were Recommend ways to avoid a recurrence of such happenings, Make any other recommendations incidental to the Commission’s assignment,Be guided by the provisions of Section 8 of the Kano State Commission of Inquiry Law and finally to Submit its report to the Governor of Kano State within one month from the date of its inauguration.

 

 

The Chairman called on the general public to support the Commission with relevant evidence and facts that will assist in preparing its report, including far-reaching recommendations.

 

 

Justice Lawan urged the media to be objective and fair in reporting the Commission’s proceedings, and to contact the leadership of the Commission for clarification before going to press.

 

The Commission members pledged to be fair in the conduct of their assignment, and the Executive Governor assured them of full autonomy and support.
