The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has approve the constitution of a 23-member committee to discuss modalities for implementation of the new national minimum wage.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijani indicates that the committee would be chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr. Babagana Malumbe, while the Head of Service, Alhaji Mallam Fannami, will be the co-chair.
According to the statement, the committee comprises twelve (12) other members from the side of the government, including the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Permanent Secretary Finance & Economic Development, Permanent Secretary Administration and General Services, Permanent Secretary Environment, Accountant-General and the State Auditor-General.
The statement notes that on the part of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, members include the NLC Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Inuwa, TUC Chairman, Comrade Babayo Hamma, and Chairman Joint Negotiating Council, Umar Abdullahi, while the state Controller of Labour will serve as an observer.
The committee’s terms of reference include; to study the current consequential salary adjustment at the federal level and determine the extent to which it can be applied in the state; use the consequential adjustment at the federal level as a guide to arrive at a reasonable and sustainable salary adjustment and any other matter relevant to arriving at a reasonable and realistic salary for civil servants.
The Governor congratulates members of the committee and directed them to commence work immediately.
