The Katsina State Police Command has arrested thirteen suspects in connection with various crimes that include armed robbery, kidnapping and vehicle theft.

While parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Katsina, the Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, said the suspects were arrested during various police operations in different parts of the state in the last one month.

Among those paraded were a gang of six armed robbers, aged between 19 and 25, who robbed a trader of 1.8 million Naira, and another syndicate specializing in stealing motorcycles and tricycles from mosques and other public gatherings.

Also arrested was Halilu Yusuf, 21, who abducted a six-year old boy at Shinkafi Village and demanded the sum of N2 million as ransom from the boy’s parents.

ASP Sadiq explained that the boy was rescued unhurt while the kidnapper was arrested after police operatives traced his location from phone calls while he negotiated the ransom payment.

While noting that the suspects have confessed to commiting the crimes, the PPRO said they would be charged to court, and urged members of the public to always alert the police on suspicious persons and movements in their surroundings.
