The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has called on stakeholders in the North West zone to utilize inland dry ports for exporting goods, reducing congestion at sea ports.
Pius Ukeyima Akutah, NSC Executive Secretary, made the call during a stakeholders’ engagement in Kano.
Pius Ukeyima emphasized the benefits of inland dry ports in the development of Export ,stressing that if Adequately utilized the Economics status of the Nation will uplifted.
He highlighted the advantages of inland dry ports, including:
– Closer shipping facilities for shippers in the hinterland
– Designated as ports of origin and destination
– No need to go to sea ports for export
– Opportunities for neighboring countries to do business
Ahmad Rabiu, Managing Director of Dala Inland Dry Port,described the port’s rail line to Lagos and other features, calling it a “game changer.”
He mentioned challenges such as:
– Lack of a fully established custom command
– Transfer of cargo to operate effectively
The ceremony was graced by stakeholders from different parts of the Nation.
