Reps Pushes for Funding of Almajiri, Out-of-School Children’s Education Policy

The House of Representatives is intervening to ensure that the Federal Government provides adequate funds for the successful implementation of the Almajiri and out-of-school children’s education policy in Nigeria.

The Chairman House committee on National Commission for Almajiri and out of school children’s education Arc Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, made this known during an interactive session with the ministers of Finance and that of Budget and National Planning.

Arc Ibrahim Almustapha, explained that the session was summoned to brief the house on the Federal Government’s financial arrangement towards the take off of the Programme to ensure vulnerable children were fully transformed under the policy.

Responding Minister of Budget and National Planning Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the entire budgetary allocation of the education sector is inadequate to address the menace of out of school children but government would continue partnering foreign donors to fund the policy.

Also in a remark, Minister of Finance Mr Wale Edun, told the house that as part of effort to provide conducive learning environment, the Tinubu led Government has directed the allocation N37bn annually under the save School initiative for a period of three years to enable the sector contribute creditably.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Almajiri and out of School children’s education Dr Muhammad Sani Idris, confirmed plans to enroll about 251 thousand out of school children to train them on various skills in addition to religious and western education.

Dr Sani Idris, stressed that statistics have shown that Nigeria has about 30m out of school children the situation and required urgent intervention from the relevant stakeholders to address the matter in the interest of National development.
