Professor Urges Cyber Crime Control Centers in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has been advised to establish a National Cyber Crime Control Centres NCCC in each of the six geo political zones of Nigeria to combat the growing threats of cyber crime.

The Director of the Academic Planning Unit (APU) Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger state, Professor John Kolo Alhassan gave the advice while delivering a lecture titltled “Achieving and Sustaining Victory in the Emerging Cyber Warfare at the Gidan Kwano Campus of FUT Minna.

Professor John Kolo Alhassan of the Department of Computer Science FUT Minna also recommended for the creation of a Dark Web monitoring research in internet technology and emerging cyber warfare tactics to achieve maximum result.

He however advocated for a comprehensive action plan that would effectively helped to address the problem to enhance rapid development of Nigeria while calling for collective efforts by Government and Non Governmental Organisations to succeed.

Prof John Kolo Alhassan said there is the pressing need for strategic and proactive measures by individuals, organizations, and government bodies to effectively combat the growing threats in cyberspace, while emphasising that winning the battle against cyber crime requires comprehensive action plans that include robust network monitoring, detection of unauthorized activities, and swift responses to the problems.

He underscored the increasing menace of identity theft, fake bank applications, and fraudulent alerts, often orchestrated via the “Dark Web.” He highlighted essential cybersecurity measures such as password management, two-factor authentication, regular vulnerability  assessments, and continuous employee training as critical defenses against these evolving threats.

He also recommended creating a Dark Web Monitoring Research Centre to keep pace with the rapid advancements in internet technology and emerging cyber warfare tactics.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta congratulated Prof Alhassan for his insightful presentation and commended the audience for their active participation.

The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate and plaque to Prof John Kolo Alhassan in recognition of his contributions to knowledge while several organizations and departments, including the School of Information and Communication Technology and the Department of Computer Science, presented gifts at the inaugural lecturer.
