Member representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, Alh Yusuf Shitu Galambi

A member representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State has appealed to the Federal Government to pause any unnecessary initiatives and focus more on improving the living standards of Nigerians.

Yusuf Shitu Galambi made the appeal while commenting on the recent protest led by youths to express their anger and grievances about the poor state of the nation’s security, hardships, hunger, and bad governance, which he said is constitutionally allowed unless otherwise stated.

Shitu Galambi criticized the encroachment of what he described as criminal elements into the protest, accusing them of hijacking it to destroy and loot both government and private property.

He expressed optimism that the outcome would prompt the government to take the right actions for sustainable peace in the near future.

The member believes that if both federal and state governments focus more on addressing the challenges of insecurity, rising food prices, inflation, and poor living conditions, it would help alleviate the poverty, hunger, and hardships that many Nigerians were currently facing.

“Any country facing such challenges would find it very difficult to improve the living conditions of its citizens, no matter the efforts, if these problems are not adequately addressed,” he emphasised

Yusuf Shitu Galambi further opined that the government should suspend infrastructural projects and use the proceeds from the removal of the oil subsidy to address these challenges, as this would be better for the country’s socio-economic development objectives.

He added that infrastructural development can not move the country out of poverty, hunger and hardship unless tackle them accordingly

Galambi, however, cautioned the Government to consider the protest as a lessons to swiftly and quickly address the challenges to avoid further deterioration in the near future

On the other hand, he urged the state governments to reciprocate the Federal Government’s efforts in addressing these challenges by spending the billions they usually receive from the Federal Government judiciously and in accordance with established procedures.

Accordingly, Galambi challenged state Governments to spend such funds judiciously in improving the living conditions of Nigerians,

He argued that states have alot to do to reciprocate the Federal Government’s efforts in ensuring that good living standard of the electorates are adequately improved to reduce poverty insecurity and other challenges that hampered the socio economic development of the majority

Yusuf Shitu Galambi also commended the autonomy of local government areas, noting that it would significantly help reduce poverty at the grassroots level, create job opportunities for the youth to become self-reliant, and enhance security.

The law maker challenged state governments to fulfill their responsibilities by using funds to boost economic prosperity.

He also advised governments at all levels to support and utilize local content, stating that internal contractors are being overlooked in favour of subsidizing foreign ones.

According to the lawmaker, this practice hampers the development of local contractors and local content.
