DICON Marks Diamond Jubilee with Health Walk in Kaduna

As part of events lined up for the sixtieth anniversary of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-DICON, civilian and military staff of the Corporation trooped-out to participate in a five kilometer health walk in Kaduna Metropolis.

Speaking during the event, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa charged personnel of the Corporation to imbibe the culture of physical fitness to enhance their productivity .

Represented by the NDA Commandant, Major General John Ochai, the Defence Chief paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of DICON for their foresight that led to the establishment of the Corporation.

General Christopher Musa noted that with the signing of the DICON bill into law by President Tinubu in November last year, the Corporation was now poised to ensure that the Armed Forces of Nigeria become self sufficient in arms and ammunition to enable it defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria adequately.

He added that with the measures put in place by the DICON DG and his management team, the Corporation is also capable of exporting defence equipment, thereby boosting the country’s foreign exchange drive.

General Musa therefore commended the DG for his transformational leadership aimed at making the DICON relevant in the comity of nations.

Earlier, the Director-General of the DICON, Major General Aniedi Edet disclosed that the Corporation under his watch was re-strategizing in view of the current realities, as well as encourage the production of indigenous arms and ammunition.

He pointed out that the DICON was celebrating the fitness of its personnel, self sufficiency in arms production, as well as celebrating strategic partnerships with local and foreign partners.

Major General Edet added that sister security agencies and the Police have indicated interest to patronize equipment produced by the DICON to promote local content.

Highpoint of the event included a football match between in-house staff of the DICON, tug of war, cultural display, presentation of trophies to winning teams among others.
