N-HYPPADEC Expends 613Million Naira For Drainage Construction In Kwara

Over six hundred million naira has been expended by the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) for the Construction of erosion control drainages in Patigi local government area of Kwara state.

Speaking at the handing over of the erosion control drainages and Inauguration of N-HYPPADEC area office in Patigi , Secretary to the government of the Federation, Senator George Akume said the drainage will mitigate challenges of climate change affecting the people of the community.

Represented by the Minister of Youth Development,Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Senator Akume said the project is driven by the renewed Hope agenda of president Tinubu.

He urged residents of the community to take ownership of the projects and ensure their maintenance.

Senator Akume said the federal government would recognise the sacrifice of the communities living around Hydro power projects, adding that efforts are on to ensure they reap the benefit .

In his address ,Kwara state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazq represented by the state Commisssioner for environment,Hajiya Nafisat Musa- Buge said the state government would collaborate with necessary stakeholders to address environmental challenges affecting the people.

He called for the dredging of the river Niger to reduce flooding in the neighbouring communities.

For his part the Managing Director ,National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa said the Commission will continue to provide infrastructures that will make life better for the people.


He said the drainage project exemplify the interest of the Commission to safeguard peoples life.

Earlier in his address the Etsu Patigi ,Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi expressed satisfaction with the quality of the drainages constructed to reclaim back the community.

The monarch also appealed to government at all levels to provide the enabling environment for skills acquisition to make the youth self reliant.
