Nationwide Protest: Security Tightened In Kano Major Markets

Kano major markets are under tight security during the ongoing peaceful protest.

A tour around Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi popularly Known as Sabon Gari market and Kantin Kwari textile market revealed the presence of security and barricades.

There was heavy security presence with barricades at major entrances to avoid the protesters from gaining access to the markets.

Protesters, mostly youths, were seen in various locations carrying placards with different inscriptions.

At Kano government house, protesters were dispersed by security agents.

Earlier, a large number of protesters stormed the government house, chanting songs and calling for the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to address them.

At the time of this report, some protesters are still outside the gate while others left due to fear of gun shots and tear gas.

The situation in some locations across Kano Local Government is tense, with some youths burning tyres.

A popular bakery, Maroosh, was vandalized while protesters were seen eating bread and other snacks from the shop.

Some of the protesters who took items from shops moved to Kofar Dan Agundi, were apprehended by another group who tried to seize the items from them, leading to a tense atmosphere.

The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiywa said they have arrested some youths after receiving a distress call that several shops were vandalized along Zaria Road.
