NASS Passes Bill For IGP To Complete Tenure

The National Assembly has passed the Police Act Amendment Bill to enable an appointed person to the office of Inspector General of Police-IGP to remain in office until the end of the term stipulated in the letter of appointment.

The Bill for an Act to amend the Nigeria Police Act 2020 presented by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central, sought to guarantee the tenure of the IGP.

The Bill is also aimed to revolutionise police operations by enhancing accountability, modernising policing methods and fostering a more harmonious relationship between the police and the community.

The Executive bill forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu in a letter was first presented for first reading, then scaled second reading and was read the third time.

The Bill was passed by lawmakers in both green and red chambers at a separate sittings.

President Tinubu is expected to sign the Bill into law.
