Reps: Tinubu Transmits Minimum Wage, Police Act Amendment Bills

President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a new National Minimum wage bill to the House of Representatives for consideration and passage.

In a letter read by the Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen on the floor of the House, the President requested swift action on the bill to allow the executive address the welfare of Nigerian workers.

The letter which emphasized the importance of a timely passage of the bill, considering the current economic challenges faced by citizens came the day the house committee on Appropriation was presenting its report on the supplementary forwarded to the house for consideration.

The executive communication comes as the country is already grappling with a proposed nationwide protest on the need to address food security and economic issues.

While reading the letter the Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen assured that the House would give the bill due consideration by prioritizing its passage to meet the President’s request.

In another development, President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the Police Act (Amendment) Bill 2024 to the House of Representatives for consideration.

This development was announced on the floor of the House by the Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, at the beginning of their weekly plenary session.

The Executive Bill proposes amendments to the Police Act, specifically targeting the tenure provisions of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
