The Borno State Government has warned that any principal or proprietor of public and private secondary schools who allow final year students to engage in the act of misconduct or anti-social activity will be sanctioned.
Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Alhaji Lawan Wakilbe gave the warning at a meeting with leadership of the Confederation of Secondary School Principals ANCOPSS, proprietors of private schools, Education secretaries and other senior officials of the ministry.
He expressed serious concern over the kind of unwholesome practices engaged by final-year secondary school students, particularly at the end of their exams.
Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, met with the Conference of Principals (ANCOPSS), education secretaries, and private school proprietors at the state secretariat in Maiduguri.
The Commissioner highlighted some of the acts being perpetrated to include vandalism of schools and government property by Senior Secondary 3 students, inappropriate inscriptions on their clothing, and illegal gatherings at event centers for social activities.
“Let me warn that any school, whether private or public, which students found in violation of these directives, will face severe consequences, including potential closure,” Wakilbe warned.
Education Secretary of Maiduguri Metropolitan Dr. Mala Kulloma, representative of the Conference of Principals of Secondary schools, Abba Ali Ladan, and that of private schools, Babagana Alkali, expressed commitment to ensure that no final-year student engages in acts of misconduct
They announced that any student found misbehaving would face serious repercussions, including having their results withheld.
Similarly, the Commissioner of Education, Lawan Wakilbe, has requested the support and collaboration of security agencies to ensure seamless graduation activities.
During a visit to the State Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Yusuf, Wakilbe called for continued surveillance of all public and private secondary schools throughout the week.
The Commissioner represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bello, assured that proactive measures have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Similarly, visit was carried out to the headquarters of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC.
