President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja from Accra, Ghana, after attending the 6th Mid-Year Coordination meeting of the African Union (AU).

He arrived at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 10 PM on Sunday, greeted by top government officials.

During his two-day visit to Ghana, President Tinubu participated in the meeting as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

He provided updates on the organization’s recent developments, highlighting both achievements and challenges.

In his address, President Tinubu detailed ECOWAS’ progress in various areas, including counter-terrorism, electoral support, economic integration, humanitarian efforts, education, health, energy, mines, and agriculture.

He underscored the activation of a Standby Force to combat terrorism, the enhancement of electoral and governance processes among member states, and initiatives to strengthen the free trade area, customs union, and common market.

Furthermore, he pointed out ECOWAS’ humanitarian efforts, such as the $9 million allocation to support persons of concern and aid frontline member states in their anti-terrorism efforts.

Despite these achievements, President Tinubu acknowledged the bloc’s challenges, which include geopolitical rivalries, terrorism, food insecurity, climate change, and misinformation.

He reaffirmed ECOWAS’ dedication to maintaining unity, engaging in dialogue with member states, and convening a Special Extraordinary Summit to discuss the community’s future.
