Governments Urge Significant Funding for Education Development

Federal and State Governments have been advised to focus attention on funding public schools to ensure that education is available to the children of poorest background.

This had became imperative, because failure to take care of children of the poor you are only waiting for a time bomb in future, which is part of what we are experiencing in Nigeria today.

Former Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance, Alh Aliyu Ahmed gave the advice at the fortieth Anniversary and re union of class of nineteen eighty four as well as unveiling of  compedium of Government Secondary School Kontagora, held in Minna the Niger state capital.

Alh Aliyu Ahmed recalled that in the seventies and eighties when they were growing up he didnt know of any public school, and went to schools with children of the very richest in their community, graduated together and were bossom friends today.

The former Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance while calling for collective efforts in the development of education, however maintained that governments at all level especially Niger state Government must accord priority to the training and retraining of teachers with constant monitoring and evaluation to achieve maximum results.

In his remarks Chairman Planning Committee class of eighty four and former member of House of Representatives from Niger state, Mika’il Al amin Bmutosai gave an example with former Ondo state Governor Olusegun Mimiko whom he said had during his tenure redouble efforts in reviving public schools in the state thereby making the private schools less atractive by parents, which he said should be emulated.

Also speaking the Chairman class of eighty four Professor Abdul Idris commended both his seniors and classmates for the renovation construction of classrooms toilets, provision of complete water system, boreholes and solar lightening system in the school among others  and called for more to succeed.

National President Government Secondary School Kontagora Old Boys Association Alh Mohammed Bala Jido who graduated from the school in nineteen seventy four as first set, said class of eighty four has set the standard for others to follow and called on members to rededdicate themselves to the development of the school.

A minute silence was observed in honour of the eighteen members that died, while award was presented to some deserving members at a colourful ceremony.
