Women Empowered Through Homestead Farming Initiative In Kaduna

In a bid to promote food security and self-reliance among women, the Small Homes Farmers Development Initiative has organized a free one-day training session on homestead farming in Kaduna.

The training, which catered to women from diverse backgrounds, aimed to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to engage in various categories of homestead farming.

According to the founder of the initiative, Hajiya Hajara Yusuf Dantsoho the training is crucial in empowering women to tackle the pressing issue of food insecurity plaguing the nation.

 

In her address, the President of the Women Entrepreneurs Development Forum and a resource person at the training, Hajiya Sa’adatu Hamma highlighted the initiative’s objective of mitigating the effects of Nigeria’s economic recession.

“We are teaching people homestead urban farming and animal husbandry, so they can go and replicate in their various localities,” she explained.


The initiative is seen as a significant step towards promoting sustainable development and building resilience against economic uncertainties.

By empowering women through homestead farming, the Small Homes Farmers Development Initiative is paving the way for improved food security and self-sufficiency in households and communities.

The training also featured a session by Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu, who shared expertise on the planting of yam, manure, and soil management.

His insightful presentation equipped participants with practical knowledge to enhance their farming skills.

The training, which was conducted in two batches, brought together women from diverse backgrounds, all united by their desire to learn and empower themselves through homestead farming.

At the end of the training, participants were given free sidlings of various crops, including tomatoes, spinach, pepper, okro, moringa, and many others.

This generous gesture was aimed at helping the women establish their own homestead farms, promoting food security and self-sufficiency in their households and communities. With the skills and resources provided, participants are now better equipped to start their own farming journey.

They thanked the Small Homes Farmers Development Initiative for the kind gesture and promised to utilize the sidlings.
