President Tinubu has Launched Agric Empowerment Programme in Yobe, Aiming to Boost Food Security and Economic Growth.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, inaugurated the Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme on Saturday in Damaturu.

The initiative, which includes the provision of agricultural machinery and implements, is part of a national strategy to enhance food security, create jobs, and diversify Nigeria’s economy.

In his address, President Tinubu highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture in national development, stating, “Food is the heart of security in every society.”

He emphasized the need to support and empower farmers to achieve broader governmental goals.

The programme, which aims to modernize the agricultural sector, includes the approval of additional resources for Yobe State, such as mini-rigs for tube wells, solar water pumps, agro-chemicals, power tillers, and more fertilizers.

This is intended to facilitate irrigation farming, reducing dependence on rain-fed agriculture.

President Tinubu also addressed security concerns, assuring measures to make farmlands safe and accessible nationwide.

Vice President Shettima, who also visited the Emir of Damaturu, conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for Yobe State’s contributions and praised Governor Mai Mala Buni’s achievements in agricultural investments.

 

Governor Buni reaffirmed the state’s support for the Tinubu administration and outlined several initiatives to revitalize agriculture, including partnerships with organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

He also highlighted the establishment of Livestock Development Centres and the revival of the Lava Irrigation Scheme.

The launch event featured the distribution of various agricultural tools and resources, including 100 Zoom Lion Tractors, 10 IMC Double Cabin 4-wheel drive vehicles, and 4,202 solar-powered irrigation water pumps, among others.

Prominent attendees included Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, APC Deputy National Chairmen Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori and Chief Emma Eneukwu, Senator Ahmed Lawan, and other dignitaries.

This programme marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to achieve food security and economic diversification through agriculture.
