Insecurity: Reps Urge Establishment of security Bases in Rara, Maikujera in Sokoto

Written by Yusuf Zubairu

House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Army, the police, and other security personnel to establish joint operation bases in Rara and Maikujera towns.

This initiative aims to enhance security presence and address the issue of insecurity in Wurno and Raba specifically, and in Nigeria as a whole.

This is sequel to a prayer of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon Ibrahim Aliyu Almustapha representing Wurno and Raba Federal constituency in Sokoto state

Invoking Order 8, Rule 5 of the House rules on matters of urgent public importance, the lawmaker called on the House to deploy security personnel to take immediate action against the ongoing banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping for ransom in the area, and to provide relief materials to the affected victims.

Almustapha believed that if measures are not urgently and adequately taken to address the nasty situation, farming activities will seriously be jeopardized and the resultant effect would not be good to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda of boosting agricultural activities for food security in Nigeria

However in an interview shortly after the motion the lawmaker explained that recently the people of Gadodi ,Tsamiya ,Mai kujera and Rara were seriously attacked by Bandits

He said despite the efforts of both federal and state Governments still there is a scale of such attacks in so many places including his constituency of Wurno Raba federal constituency in Sokoto state.

Ibrahim Almustapha further stated that in that operation, no fewer than 33 innocent and law-abiding Nigerians, including a 9-month pregnant woman, were taken away, and the bandits are demanding a ransom of about 40 million naira from the impoverished people who have spent over five years in critical condition as a result of such operations.

He added that their operation in Maikujera town has crippled the normal activities of the people in the area to the extent that going to farms is very difficult because of the fear of being kidnapped, ”the only option is to flee from the area. The question is what the motion seeks the House to do”.

The lawmaker therefore said the objective of his motion is for the House to seek the cooperation of critical stakeholders on security to provide an operational bases in Rara and Maikujera respectively for the people of the area to be able to have peace of mind and be able to access their farms.

Meanwhile, Almustapha going by these scenarios, advised the Nigerian Youth to rethink of the proposed peaceful protest to avoid some miscreant take the advantage and create havoc that will aggravate the current insecurity situation in the country.
