Written by Yusuf Zubairu

The residents of Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State have raised concerns over severe flooding that destroyed part of the road and the bridge leading to Kauru town, leaving commuters stranded with no alternative routes available.

An eyewitness, Chiroman Yada Labarain Kauru Malam Sani Abanke, said the affected road, which connects Panbeguwa in Kubau LGA to Kauru town, the headquarters of the Local government and several surrounding villages and communities, is a crucial route for the evacuation of farm produce.

He explained that the damage has significantly impacted the local economy and daily life, as residents rely heavily on this road for transportation and trade.

Other community members interviewed are calling for urgent and concerted efforts from the government at all levels to address the situation.

They stressed the importance of immediate repairs to restore access and ensure the safety and well-being of the people in the area.

Speaking at the scene where the flooding has exacerbated the already poor condition of the road, making it impassable, the Emir of Kauru, Alhaji Zakaria Ya’u Usman, highlighted the urgent need for action to fix the deplorable condition of the road.

According to him, the condition of the road has not only hindered the movement of people and goods but also posed significant risks to those attempting to navigate the damaged route.

The royal father is appealing to the current administration to prioritize the reconstruction project and provide the necessary resources to complete it.

He also emphasized the need for a sustainable and durable solution to prevent future occurrences and ensure the continued growth and prosperity of the communities in the area.

The people of Kauru LGA are hopeful that their appeals will be heard and that swift action will be taken to address the flooding damage and restore the road,” Alhaji Zakaria Ya’u II maintained.

The Emir noted that as the rainy season continues, the urgency of the situation grows, and the residents remain steadfast in their call for immediate government intervention to alleviate their plight and improve the infrastructure in Kauru, the headquarters of the Local Government Area.

Radio Nigeria reports that it has been nearly nine years since the previous government awarded a contract for the reconstruction of this vital road.

In the meantime, residents continue to face significant challenges as they attempt to find alternative means of transportation and access to essential services.
