Ajuri Ngelale Leads Key Engagements as Nigeria Prepares for UNGA, COP29

The Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale has Spearheaded a series of pivotal engagements as Nigeria gears up for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29).

Ngelale convened with key stakeholders from the Environmental Task Office (ETO), National Climate Change Council (NCCC), and the Presidency to review and synchronize their preparations.

This collaborative effort aims to ensure seamless cross-governmental engagements in the coming days, setting a robust foundation for Nigeria’s participation in these significant global events.

In a strategic virtual meeting, Ngelale engaged with Mr. Michael Uwemedimo, the leader of a $100 million project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).The initiative, launching next year, focuses on the large-scale regeneration of mangrove forests in the Niger Delta, a vital effort to offset carbon emissions in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Ngelale also hosted a crucial discussion with Bloomberg Group Executive Nicky Keefe regarding Nigeria’s role in the B20 Business Forum in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The dialogue centered on enhancing value chain localization in renewable energy technologies, a move aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s renewable energy sector and driving sustainable economic growth.

Culminating the day’s activities, Ngelale attended the Incoming U.S. Ambassador’s Dinner Reception, hosted by incoming U.S. Ambassador Rick Mills.

The event, which welcomed members of U.S. President Joe Biden’s Advisory Council on African Relations, underscored the strengthening ties between the United States and Nigeria.

The reception highlighted collaborative efforts in climate action and economic development, setting the stage for enhanced bilateral relations.

Ajuri Ngelale’s leadership and strategic engagements reflect Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change and participating actively in global discussions.

As preparations for UNGA and COP29 advance, Ngelale’s efforts signify a proactive approach to fostering international cooperation and sustainable development.
