Written by Yusuf Zubairu

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack on former U.S. President Donald Trump, calling it “distasteful and beyond the pale of democratic norms.”

Trump was injured and rushed off stage during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania due to an apparent assassination attempt.

Reports indicate that loud gunshots were heard as Trump addressed his supporters, leading Secret Service Agents to swiftly escort him away.

Video footage shows Trump being hurried offstage as the crowd sought cover.

Tinubu extended his sympathies to Trump and offered condolences to the families of the deceased and those wounded, wishing them a speedy recovery.

He affirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with the United States during this time.

In a statement on his verified X handle @officialABAT, Tinubu said: “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.

“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
