The Senate has reassured Nigerians of its commitment to ensure that legislation on health issues receives the required attention to promote good health for Nigerias.

The Senator representing Nasarawa West Muhammad Ogoshi Onawo gave the assurance shortly after a public hearing on a bill for an act to establish Eye Center in Doma, Nasarawa state.

Briefing newsmen after the public hearing, Senator Ogoshi Onawo said the idea of the Eye Centre came up when he observed that there was no similar centre in the North Central region.

He emphasized that, as representatives of the people, it is their responsibility to bring forward legislation that promotes good health for those they represent.

The Senator explained that, based on his observation, apart from the Eye Centre in Kaduna, none of the surrounding states have a similar facility.

Therefore, establishing one in Nasarawa will be of immense benefit to all the states in the North Central region, as well as areas in the southern part of the country.

According to the lawmaker, this observation was supported by an expert on eye diseases during the public hearing, who confirmed that apart from the one in Kaduna, there is no other similar facility in the surrounding areas.

Senator Onawo added that given the security situation in the country, traveling from the Abuja area to Kaduna is not sufficiently safe.

Therefore, establishing a similar center in Doma, Nasarawa State, will help many Nigerians have easier access to specialized eye services, especially those from Abuja, Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba, and other parts of the South.

The Senator further explained that some of the benefits of establishing the centre in Doma Nasarawa state include employment opportunities, treatment of eye Problems, training and eye care services

Muhammad Ogoshi Onawo appealed to his colleagues for their support and sought the approval of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for the benefit of all Nigerians.
