KanSLAM Urges KNSG to Hasten Payments for Family Planning, MNCH Budgets

Written by Yusuf Zubairu

The Kano State Led Accountability Mechanism KanSLAM has urged the state government to expedite action on the timely payment of funds budgeted for family planning, maternal child health MNCH and Reproductive Health (RH).

The Chairman Advocacy sub-committee, KanSLAM, Alhaji Hassan Ibrahim Gama made the call during an advocacy to the Kano state commissioner of health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf in his office.

According to him, budget tracking by KanSLAM revealed that funds allocated to family planning, Maternal Newborn and Child Health MNCH as well as Reproductive health (RH) are yet to be released.

“We are optimistic that as the health commissioner, you will do something about it”

He stressed that available data and statistics show that the health sector under the present administration had recorded tremendous achievements in the last few months.

The Kano state commissioner of health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf described late submission of memo as a major hindrance to budget implementation.

He pointed out that the funds have been released to the health ministry, but a memo from the public health department for implementation has not yet been received. “Unnecessary delays in memo submission affect budget implementation.”

Dr. Abubakar mentioned that a proposal for the commemoration of MHC week has been approved and is scheduled to take place at the end of July.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction with KanSLAM’s dedication to keeping an eye on the health sector and reiterated the state government’s readiness to improve the life of its citizens through quality healthcare delivery.

Radio Nigeria reports that the advocacy was supported by Pathfinder International and attended by members of KanSLAM, CCSI, and others.
