NDDC Board, Advisory Committee Vow to Revitalize Ongoing, Abandoned Projects

The Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in conjunction with the advisory committee, have reiterated its commitment to ensuring all ongoing and abandoned projects in the area are resuscitated for completion.

The newly elected chairman, Governors forum of the nine oil producing states and Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma gave this assurance shortly after a meeting in Abuja

Governor Uzodinma said the law establishing the commission created the board to ensure proper oversight of the progress made by the commission and the developmental activities in the area.

He said the objective of such a meeting was to discuss issues surrounding ongoing and abandoned projects that promote the unity, progress, and development of the people of the Niger Delta.

According to him, it’s the responsibility of the advisory committee, consisting of the governors of the nine oil-producing states, to assess the progress of the commission and create synergy between the board and the advisory committee to promote sustainable development in the region.

Governor Hope further noted that during the last administration of president Buhari a forensic committee was formed to identify all projects that suffer from inadequate funding,

The chairman said in line with initiatives, the new board of the commission was working hand in hand with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure all the projects were completed in due course,

He assured that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu had listening ears as such he was working with the new board of the commission to fulfil the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Niger Delta region

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, said the forthcoming Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit on Friday, 2024, would help the commission implement projects that ensure the sustainable development of the Niger Delta.

He added that the commission was collaborating with the state Governors to execute projects that have direct bearings on the needs of the society

The Managing Director also assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was highly committed to ensuring all abandoned projects from the past fifteen or so years would be completed this time around.

Earlier, the governors of the oil-producing states elected Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the forum, with Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State elected as vice chairman and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River as secretary.
