NDA Collaborates With SPSP To Tackle Insecurity In Africa

Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy-NDA, Major General John Ochai has identified ignorance and poverty as the major drivers of insecurity.

He stated this during the opening ceremony of a five day international conference and general assembly in collaboration with a nongovernmental organization, Society for Peace Studies and Practice, held at the Academy premises, Afaka in Kaduna State.

Represented by his Deputy, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Commandant said the NDA and the society were making frantic efforts to tackle the issue of insecurity in Africa.

Major General John Ochai advocated for a holistic approach to curb the menace, for national development.

Also speaking, former Chief of Defence Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai opined that unless the root causes of insecurity are addressed, the problem might linger much longer.

In his remarks, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state noted that no nation can survive without collaboration and community engagement.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Information and internal security, Professor Usman Tar, the Governor disclosed that government at all levels are working towards strengthening the country’s security architecture.

The theme of the International conference is “Community Engagement: Networking kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities for tackling insecurity in Africa”

The event had in attendance, policy makers from the public and private sectors, professional bodies, civil society organisations and the media.
