Gov Bago Earmarks N5b for New NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has approved the release of five billion naira for the construction of a new National Youths Service Corp NYSC permanent orientation camp in the state.

The Governor stated this at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch B, Stream orientation course at Paikoro Local Government Areas.

Alhaji Umar Bago also used the occasion to announce a two hundred thousand naira bonus for all corps members of the 2014 Batch B, Stream, along with cows and a truck of rice to make them comfortable during their service year.

He, however, assured that his administration will sink five boreholes and construct toilets in the temporary camp to give them a sense of belonging.

The Niger State Governor also appealed to the corps members to join his agricultural revolution to address food scarcity, stressing that his administration had invested heavily in agriculture and assuring them of their welfare and safety.

In his remarks, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ibrahim, thanked Governor Umar Bago for the gesture and called for closer cooperation to succeed.

Also speaking, the Minister for Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, said that part of the ministry’s initiative is to empower five thousand NYSC members with ten million naira each for entrepreneurial ventures upon the completion of their service year.

Similarly, she said the Ministry is launching the National Youth Skills Programme (NYSP) to train over one million young people in diverse fields such as technology and agriculture, among others.

NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka, explained that a total of one hundred corps members were serving with Niger Foods as part of the scheme’s contribution to the governor’s green economy initiative.
