Senator Marafa Revives APC Faction in Zamfara

Written by Yusuf Zubairu

The Senator who represented Zamfara Central Senatorial district in the 7th and 8th Nigerian Senate, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has announced the revival of his faction within the Zamfara State All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to newsmen during a meeting with hundreds of his supporters in Kaduna, Senator Marafa revealed that the faction’s membership register would be reopened from the ward to the state level.

According to Marafa, this move is a protest against the recent APC meeting in Zamfara State, led by the immediate past Governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, where his group was excluded.

We want to show that we are the mainstream of APC in Zamfara state. Now that we have been excluded from the Zamfara State APC, we want to adopt ourselves,” said Senator Marafa.

“From today, we have instructed all our followers to re-establish our faction from polling units to the state level because that’s what the leaders of the APC want.”

There are always implications for every action, and we are quite conversant with the rules, having been on this path in the past. We know the road,

Senator Marafa emphasized that his group is ready to re-establish their faction, starting from the grassroots.

Since we agreed to come together, we felt there was no need for another faction,”

He noted that, “Whenever there is an APC meeting in Zamfara, two factions are recognized: Yari and Matawalle. For us, we felt after the alliance, we should not be talking about factions, since they have decided to recognize factions, they should recognise three factions.

Senator Marafa also expressed deep concern over the insecurity in Zamfara, describing it as the state’s greatest problem.

Our people are under siege; that is the truth of the matter,” he said, noting the alarming state of insecurity in Zamfara and acknowledging the federal government’s commitment to ending the crisis.

Senator Kabiru Marafa urged the people of Zamfara to think deeply and choose leaders who would help them address insecurity ahead of the next elections.
