Bakers, Caterers Raise Bread Prices by Over 20% in Borno

The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Borno State Chapter, has increased the prices of bread and other products by more than twenty per cent.

In a statement to Radio Nigeria, Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bukar Mustapha says the decision to hike the prices was reached at the end of a management meeting held in Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to the statement, the resolution to increase the prices of bread was borne out of the hike in prices of flour and other ingredients necessary for the production of bread and finished products in the baking industry.

“The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Borno State chapter has announced an increase in the princes of their products after a meeting of the management of the Association in Maiduguri ” the statement stated.

Breakdown of the prices shows that Jumbo bread will now be sold at N240 from its original price of N200, round is N340 instead of N290 while Kalangu is now N360 and from N300

Others include, Carpet bread N480 from its former price of N400, Luxy bread is 600 from 500, Marcopolo will now be sold at N720 from N600, while family bread is now N1200 from its former N1000.

The statement adds that the Chairman regrets any inconveniences that might arise due to the new prices as the measure was taken in order to save their businesses from the collapse.

He promised not to compromise on quality, noting that the products would be based on NAFDAC’s laid down regulations.

The new price regime takes effect from 1st July 2024.
