NDA Commandant Appeals For Government’s Support TO Boost Local Production Of Arms

Written by Abubakar Hamza

The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy-NDA, Major General John Ochai has called on the federal government to support the local production of arms and ammunition in the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-DICON.

He made the call during a facility tour at the DICON Ordnance factory in Kakuri, Kaduna.

In a statement by the DICON Media Relations Officer, Lieutenant Christopher Agu, the Commandant noted that the two institutions were critical in the training of officers and production of arms and ammunition.

He opined that the DICON production rate should be able to sustain the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as well as meet other demands.

The Commandant maitained that the production capacity of DICON should not be limited to the production of military hardware alone, but other products like uniforms, berets and mess tins amongst others.

Major General Ochai expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far by the Director-General, and pledged to create more awareness on the activities of the Corporation.

Responding, the Director-General of DICON, Major General Aniedi Edet appreciated the Commandant for the visit and support to the DICON.

He pointed out that what DICON is doing isn’t a challenge, but a prospect for the future, stressing that there is so much to interface and innovate with the NDA.
