Jigawa State Government has announced its preparation to offer free medical treatment including dialysis to kidney patients at five health facilities in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abdullahi Kainuwa disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the resolution of the State Executive Council meeting.
He said that the government had approved contracts for establishing dialysis centers at Dutse and Ringim General Hospitals, while the installation of dialysis machines and other equipment is progressing in Hadejia, Kazaure, and Gumel General Hospitals.
Dr. Kainuwa noted that the new package was part of Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda, which includes access to healthcare services for people at all levels, irrespective of social and economic status.

Dr Kainuwa further explained that, the state executive council had also approved N1.5 billion for the renovation and upgrading 32 health facilities across the 30 constituencies in the state.
He explained that the renovation and upgrading were aimed at ensuring the facilities provide 24-hour services to meet the growing demand for healthcare services.
According to him, 500 underprivileged individuals from each of the 287 political wards in the state will be enrolled in free health insurance.
“Though the Social Health Insurance is for primary healthcare, the beneficiaries are guaranteed free services up to the tertiary level under the scheme, for which the council approved N1.5 billion”
” To achieve the desired goals, we recruited 1,100 health workers last month, including 200 doctors, pharmacists, and nurses. The program also includes the renovation and upgrading of all existing health facilities, including those constructed since the 1970s without any major renovation or upgrading in the state”.
