The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has organized a five-day training for staff of the Borno State College of Nursing and Midwifery on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) in emergencies.

The training, held at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano, aimed to enhance the capacity of faculty staff for effective service delivery in crisis-affected areas.

Humanitarian Coordinator and Head of Office, UNFPA North East, Chris Sabun Macauley, emphasized the importance of targeting college personnel to impart knowledge to students and enhance healthcare service delivery.

Macauley noted that the North East has been experiencing crisis for over 15 years, affecting the health system, particularly in Borno State.

“We are targeting these personnel of the college to impart the knowledge they gained during this training to their students aimed at enhancing the health care service delivery”

He said the training aims to achieve zero maternal death, zero GBV, and address unmet reproductive health needs.

” We believe the Collaboration we are doing with the college of Nursing and Midwifery would yeild positive results

The provost of the college, Rukayya Shettima, praised the timely training and urged participants to step down the training to other staff and students for the betterment of the health system in Borno State.

Thirty participants attended the training, and some, like Liyatu Haruna and Bukar Aji, appreciated UNFPA’s efforts and committed to sharing their experiences with colleagues and students to achieve the set objectives.
