The Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, announced during a meeting with stakeholders that fertilizer would be distributed to farmers and others in the state for free starting next week.

The distribution of the fertilizer is part of Senator Barau’s efforts to contribute to the attainment of food security in the state and the nation at large

In a statement signed by Ismaila Mudashir, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to Senator Barau, it was explained that the fertilizer distribution will benefit individuals across the three senatorial districts in the state.

The recipients will include clerics, traditional leaders, elders, party leaders, and others.

The statement further explains that the decision is to assist farmers in the state who are in dire need of the commodity, especially now at the beginning of the rainy season, noting that the distribution will commence soon.

In the statement, Senator Barau emphasized that agriculture is a crucial part of the economy, significantly contributing to the GDP.

He highlighted that it is particularly vital in Northern Nigeria, which is considered the nation’s food basket, adding that it’s importance underlies his decision to support farmers across the state to ensure a bumper harvest this farming season.

Senator Barau however, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the gesture and invest in their farms so that they can feed themselves and contribute to the attainment of food security in the country.
