Written by Yusuf Zubairu

Kano State Government has advised residents to avoid drinking rainwater for now to prevent the spread of cholera, a seasonal disease that occurs annually during the rainy season.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Health, the advice is necessary due to the risk of cholera complications that arise during the rainy season, which has already affected some states in the country.

Residents are urged to examine what they consume, especially vegetables, fruits, and drinking water, and to purify rainwater using water treatment substances, including boiling and filtering before use.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, also emphasized the importance of thoroughly washing vegetables and fruits with clean water before consumption and immediately reporting to the nearest health facility if one falls ill.

The government assured that it would continue to prioritize the healthcare of its citizens and urged residents to take preventive measures to safeguard themselves against cholera and other illnesses.
