2 Killed in Clash Between Rival Youth Groups in Niger State

Two people have been killed in a  clash between two rival youth groups popularly refered to as the Sara_suka in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger state.

The incident occurred on Friday when Kure, the leader and commander of one of the groups, mobilized about seventeen youths from Minna, the state capital, for a revenge mission over the killing of their member by the other gang in Kontagora last year.

This escalated into a violent clash between the two groups, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including Commander Kure, who suffered severe head injuries, with many njured and are currently receiving medical treatment.

While tension is high in Kontagora and its environs, the Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Shehu S. Pawa, urges people of the area to remain calm.

According to him, adequate security measures have been put in place to avert any reprisal attacks and advised residents to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation or intimidation.

In an interview, the Niger state Commissioner of Homeland Security General Mohammed Abdullahi Bello gave an assurance that they were on top of the situation.

General Mohammed Abdullahi Bello, however, stated that the culprits would be arrested, and any parent who attempts to support their ward by seeking bail will also be arrested to serve as a deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of arrests by the police in Niger State.
