Written by Basirat Memudu

The House of Representatives Committee on Defence has called on Nigerians to provide greater support to the nation’s Armed Forces to sustain their recent successes.

The Chairman of the Committee, Babajimi Benson said the military’s achievements in various operations across the country showcase the bravery, professionalism and unwavering commitment of the men and officers towards safeguarding the nation.

At a briefing with journalists, the Committee Chair urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safer and more secure country.

He commended the Armed Forces for their remarkable achievements and steadfast dedication, emphasizing that these accomplishments reflect the resilience and sacrifice of the men and women in uniform, who tirelessly work to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

Mr Benson highlighted the numerous victories against insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening Nigeria’s peace and security, saying the successes not only demonstrate the strategic prowess of military leadership but also the dedication and bravery of the soldiers.

“The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has continually delivered significant blows to terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Region through a series of daring operations,” he said.

“In Abia State’s Ihechiowa community of Arochukwu Local Government Area, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, has impressively intensified efforts against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Our troops raided and cleared IPOB/ESN camps in the Umudi Forest and Umuaku areas of Umunneochi Local Government Area (LGA), liberating the communities from the clutches of miscreants and terrorists.”

Mr Benson also recalled the recent discovery and deactivation by the Nigerian Navy Ship, Soroh, of an illegal refining site in the Isonogbene area of Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

In addition, the Nigerian Air Force conducted “impressive airstrikes” in Katsina State, resulting in the killing of more than 80 terrorists.

He assured the Armed Forces of The Green Chamber’s “unwavering support” and expressed the readiness of the House to provide “all necessary resources” to enhance the military’s operational capabilities.
